Although the strong pink support structure suggests otherwise, on close inspection, the geological specimen in this work is stable and self-supporting. But the inclusion of a conspicuous display mechanism reframes this concrete piece as an artifact.

At a time where the physical world is increasingly being compressed, transmitted, and experienced digitally, Tom Borgas’ art practice is concerned with drawing attention to this shift through its reverse– by presenting the aesthetic and structural motifs of digital technology as actual objects and events in real space/time. Tom’s work is foundationally sculptural but extends to include performative and participatory elements as a means of engaging an audience.
